Into the Shadows, Towards the Stars

Day 4

Chapters 22-28

Welcome back book besties! Today’s chapters take us from Velaris to the mortal realm, from fractured family ties to flirty forest banter, and from painful revelations to emotional release. Feyre’s journey is no longer just survival - it’s confrontation, closure, and the first flickers of becoming. Let’s dive into the shadows and trace the stars.

No Answer, New Direction

Rhysand’s letter asking to visit the Summer Court still hangs unanswered, so the group pivots - heading to the mortal realm instead. The shift feels abrupt, but necessary. Feyre isn’t just returning to her old home; she’s returning as someone irrevocably changed. The contrast between who she was and who she is now sets the tone for everything that follows.

Full Circle in Winter

It’s been one year since Feyre killed Andras. One year since everything began. And now, in the same season it started - winter - Feyre walks back into her family home as a fae. The symmetry is haunting. Her father is away in Neva, trading and attending a summit about the threat Feyre warned them about before going Under the Mountain. And here, in the quiet tension of her sisters’ home, Feyre reveals the truth: she died. She was resurrected. She is no longer human. The reaction? Predictably cold. Nesta’s resistance isn’t spite its fear. Elain’s engagement to the son of a fae-hating lord adds another layer of dread. The wedding is five months away, and Nesta will not risk persecution from the community and her soon to be family by marriage for harboring Faeries.

Archeron Tensions

Feyre introduces Rhysand, Cassian, and Azriel to her sisters—marking the first time we hear their family name: Archeron. The dinner table becomes a battlefield of unspoken grief and simmering resentment. Feyre struggles to eat because the food doesn’t taste as good in the mortal realm as it does in Prythian, and Cassian doesn’t hold back. His confrontation with Nesta is raw and righteous, calling out the danger Feyre endured to support them, the sacrifice she made, and the coldness she received in return. It’s a moment of reckoning. Meanwhile, we get another glimpse into fae politics: the divide between High Fae and lesser fae, and the injustices that ripple through Prythian’s hierarchy.

Banter and Bait

Training in the forest near the Archeron estate brings a welcome shift in tone. Feyre and Rhysand’s banter is playful, and flirtatious. Their magical note-passing is adorable, it reminded me of those times in school… - until Feyre, distracted, is ambushed by the Attor. The danger is real, and I completely forgotten that the Attor escaped under the mountain. The stakes snap back into focus.

Rescue and Revelation

Rhysand arrives in his usual fashion, wrapped in darkness, pinning the Attor to a tree with terrifying ease. He tortures him briefly before handing him off to Azriel, who takes him to the Court of Nightmares for… further conversation. But the twist? Rhysand used Feyre as bait. And she’s not okay with it. The trust between them fractures, even if just slightly.

Hybern’s Interest

The question that needs an answer: What does the King of Hybern want with Feyre? Feyre is no longer just a survivor - she’s a target, a symbol, a threat.

Letters and Letting Go

Back in Velaris, Feyre writes to the Spring Court. The message is clear: she’s closing the door on Tamlin and their relationship for good. The act is quiet, but seismic. A weight lifts from her shoulders, and with it, a new desire blooms. She asks Rhysand to show her Velaris at night. The symbolism is unmistakable—she’s ready to step into the dark and see what glows.

Also: Cassian and Nesta. Rivals to lovers energy? Absolutely. I’m here for every sharp glance, simmering tension, and well-placed barbs.

Final Reflections

These chapters are a mosaic of emotional reckoning. Feyre confronts her past, her family, and her future. She’s no longer fading -she’s choosing. The mortal realm may have rejected her, but Velaris is waiting. And with every step, she’s becoming someone new.

Morrigan and Amren tied for the lead, each stealing 33% of your hearts with their fierce loyalty and enigmatic charm. Azriel and Cassian followed close behind, each claiming 17%—and yes, Cassian got my vote too. His fire, his fury, his compassion, and that unforgettable dinner table moment? Iconic.
