Day 7 (Finale!)

Ch. 14: Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback

Ch. 15: The Forbidden Forest

Ch. 16: Through the Trapdoor

Ch. 17: The Man with Two Faces

Welcome to the final day of my Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Deep Dive. Today we reach the climax of Year One! These chapters are packed with tension, mystery, and heart, and they bring Harry’s first year at Hogwarts to a powerful close. Let’s step into the finale together.

Chapter Fourteen: Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback

Why do the trio visit Hagrid’s hut, and what do they learn? What does Harry leave on top of the observation tower?

The trio visits Hagrid after running into him in the library while researching Flamel. To keep them quiet, Hagrid invites them to his hut, where they finally confirm that the Sorcerer’s Stone is indeed what’s being guarded. They also learn which professors contributed enchantments to protect it: Sprout, Flitwick, McGonagall, Quirrell, Dumbledore, and Snape. Only Hagrid and Dumbledore know how to get past Fluffy.

And then there’s Norbert. Hagrid’s illegal baby dragon, won in a card game. After Harry and Hermione help smuggle Norbert to Charlie Weasley’s friends, they rush back to the Gryffindor common room and realize they’ve left the Invisibility Cloak at the top of the observation tower when they are caught by Filch.

Chapter Fifteen: The Forbidden Forest

Why are Draco, Neville, Hermione, and Harry punished, and what is their detention? What does Harry overhear Quirrell saying? Who is Ronan? What do Harry and Malfoy see in the forest? What does Firenze tell Harry? What does Harry find waiting in his bed?

Draco, trying to catch Harry out of bed, is caught by McGonagall. Neville is caught sneaking around trying to warn Harry, and Harry and Hermione are caught by Filch. Each loses 50 points for Gryffindor resulting in a devastating 150‑point blow, putting Gryffindor in last place for the house cup, and all four receive detention.

Harry overhears Quirrell speaking to someone in an empty classroom, and he hears Quirrell agree to something under pressure.

They meet Ronan, a centaur who cryptically repeats that Mars is unusually bright and nothing more. Later, Harry and Malfoy stumble upon a dead unicorn and a cloaked figure drinking its blood. Firenze rescues Harry and explains that unicorn blood can keep someone alive even if they are inches from death, but at a terrible cost: a cursed life.

When Harry returns to his dormitory, he finds his Invisibility Cloak waiting for him once again, with a simple note: Just in case.

Chapter Sixteen: Through the Trapdoor

Why does Hermione use a Body‑Bind on Neville? How do they get past Fluffy? What is Devil’s Snare? How do they pass the flying keys? How does Ron guide them through Wizard’s Chess? What is the riddle of the seven bottles, and how does Hermione solve it?

As the trio prepares to stop Snape from stealing the Stone, Neville stands up to them and blocks the common room exit. Hermione, desperate and apologetic, uses a Body‑Bind curse to get past him.

To get by Fluffy, Harry plays a melody on the flute Hagrid gave him for Christmas. Once they drop through the trapdoor, they land in Devil’s Snare, a plant that thrives in darkness. Hermione conjures her blue flames, freeing them.

Harry’s Seeker instincts help him spot the correct flying key, and with teamwork they manage to catch it. Ron then leads them through a life‑sized game of Wizard’s Chess, sacrificing himself as the knight so Harry and Hermione can move forward.

Finally, Hermione solves Snape’s logic puzzle, the riddle of the seven bottles and figuring out which ones contain poison, using superb logic skills.

Chapter Seventeen: The Man with Two Faces

What does Quirrell reveal? What does Harry see in the Mirror of Erised? What happens when Harry touches Quirrell? What does Harry learn about Snape? What is the final result of the House Cup?

Quirrell reveals everything:

• He was the one trying to kill Harry during the Quidditch match

• He let the troll into the castle

• He has been serving Voldemort for quite some time

• Voldemort is literally sharing his body

When Harry looks into the Mirror of Erised, he sees himself pull the Stone from his pocket and then the real Stone drops into his actual pocket. Dumbledore later explains that only someone who wanted to find the Stone but not use it could retrieve it.

When Harry touches Quirrell, his scar sears with pain and Quirrell’s skin burns and blisters. Harry later learns from Dumbledore that Snape protected him all year because James (Harry’s Dad) once saved Snape’s life; a debt Snape felt compelled to repay.

At the House Cup ceremony, Slytherin initially wins… until Dumbledore awards last‑minute points:

• 50 to Ron for the best‑played game of chess

• 50 to Hermione for cool logic

• 60 to Harry for courage

• 10 to Neville for standing up to his friends

With these points, Gryffindor wins the House Cup, and the Great Hall transforms into scarlet and gold.

Notes from the Castle Corridors

Hagrid is so incredibly thoughtful! I love him! The photo album he gives Harry, filled with wizarding pictures of his parents, is one of the most tender moments in the entire book. It’s such a gentle, loving gesture.

🔮 Tarot Tie‑In: The World

For the finale, the tarot card that fits best is The World — the card of completion, integration, and the end of a cycle. Harry’s first year at Hogwarts comes full circle: mysteries solved, friendships deepened, courage tested, and a new sense of belonging earned. The World represents closure, triumph, and stepping into the next chapter with wisdom gained.

It’s also the last card in the deck, circling back to zero, the beginning, which is exactly where Harry stands as he heads into summer, back at the Dursley’s. Back where he started, but different.

Final Thoughts from the Ravenclaw Tower

And just like that, Year One comes to a close. Harry faces Voldemort for the first time (that he can remember), learns the truth about Snape, and finds a sense of family in the most unexpected places. The trio proves their loyalty and bravery again and again.

Before we wrap up, I’d love to know:

What is your Hogwarts house?

I’m a Ravenclaw.

What would be your favorite first‑year class?

I’m thinking mine would be Charms.

And now it’s time to say goodbye to Year One and start summer vacation with Harry. I’m honestly surprised by how excited I am to re‑read Year Two: Chamber of Secrets. There’s something magical about rediscovering these books with fresh eyes, and I can’t wait to continue the journey. I have a couple of books I need to wrap up before I begin book two, but…

See you in the next adventure.
