The new day begins with Helion slipping out of Mor’s room early in the morning, and everyone getting ready for another day of battle planning. The Night Court went into this meeting of the High Lords, not only to rally alliances, but to also make a statement, with their wardrobe.
In the middle of battle preparations Nesta, practically launched herself from her seat and was sick in the reflection pool. A blink of an eye later, the entire world shook! Hybern actually did it! He used the cauldron to bring down the wall. This scene was so well written that I got chills! The turn of events caught me off guard.
Rhys figures that Nesta’s connection to the cauldron is the reason why she knew something wasn’t right. He also deduces that it’s the reason Hybern came hunting for her. Am I the only person, up to this point that is wondering what good is Elain’s gift of foresight? The Meeting of the High Lords concluded within minutes of the wall being demolished, everyone returning to their courts to put all the preparations discussed in motion.
At dinner that evening, The Night Court began planning on the best way to help the people still in residence at the Archeron Estate. Rhys offered to evacuate the household. Nesta believes that they will not come (they still believe the fae to be evil creatures). Elain suggests that they move them all to Graysen’s estate. (her fiancé) Not only does he have the space, and supplies, he also has a means of offense. A grove of ash trees, and even hounds that are trained to sniff out and viciously attack Fae if necessary. Grayson and his father sound like horrible people. Elain volunteers to go to speak to Greysen and his father in person, and under a glamour. That obviously didn’t go over to well with her sisters. The rest of the Night Court will travel with Elain unglamoured, so that they can use the hounds to through off Greyson and Co. Elain set some ground rules about Feyre not killing Greyson if things go pear shaped. When she went off to change her clothes, Nesta offered to help. Elain declined. I thought that Elain declining Nesta’s help dressing was her being defiant. Now I believe that Elain has realized her role at the Night Court. Her passing on Nesta’s help isn’t defiance. It’s her stepping up and holding her own.
Not Cassian giving Nesta fighting tips! I don’t know about you, but when I picture Nesta and Cassian walking into a room together…WHEW!
Feyre will give up anything to ensure Rhysand and her family survive this war. The same cannot be said of the other High Lords. Feyre made a comment on Helion’s character. She said that she couldn’t really rely on Helion showing up to help save Prythian from Hybern because he didn’t step in and help The Lady of Autumn, his own lover when knew she was being abused by Beron. Her inner thoughts annoyed me because I like Helion’s character, but Feyre spoke facts. (boooo)
I completely forgot that Feyre is wearing a bargain tattoo other than the one she and Rhysand forged while under the mountain! (gasp!) The creature that lives far beneath the library has a name, and now it is time to pay Bryaxis a visit. How is it that Amren knew this but never said anything?
Feyre, unwilling to face the ouroboros mirror, casts aside the bone carver and makes yet another bargain with Bryaxis. In exchange for its help on the battlefield, Feyre will bring the sun, the moon, and the stars to the depths of the library. It is Bryaxis’s home and it wishes to stay.
How many bargain tattoos does Feyre have now? Three?
The Night Court meets at the town house for what could be the last time. Let me just say: I practically levitate out of my chair every time Elain and Azriel have some sort of interaction with each other. I wonder what magic is happening between those two. I will be honest it is a bit confusing, considering his relationship, or lack thereof, with Mor. As of right now, I like Azriel more for Elain than I do Lucien, but I am hoping that changes before the end of the story.
They leave for the Illyrian war-camp and the curtain closes on Cursebreaker, and opens on High Lady.
Discussion
While Feyre was up to her shenanigans while at The Spring Court, I was her biggest cheerleader. As of now, I feel as though she may have made the wrong move. I understand that she did what she did at the close of ACOMAF to save her family, but when she was back at the Spring Court, maybe Hybern hadn’t gotten as far as he did had Feyre just gathered intel and left. Things may be worse because she needed revenge for what his actions let up to with their confrontation with Hybern and his treatment of The Night Court and her sisters.
The Wall has fallen, removing a significant barrier to Hybern's campaign of war and the enslavement of the mortal realm. Yet, hope persists. The Night Court has secured a fragile alliance with several other High Lords. The question remains: Can they halt Hybern's advance? Dive with me into the concluding segment of A Court of Wings and Ruin.
