We have movement! These next five chapters move fairly quickly.
Everyone except Amren winnows to an Illyrian war camp, where the greeting is anything but warm. Rhys, Cassian, and Azriel brief the warriors on the demolition of the wall and issue their orders to the fighting forces. Lord Devlon glances at Nesta and immediately recognizes that she is different, just as he had when he first met Amren and Feyre. Once everyone has their orders, the group winnows to the mortal lands, arriving at Greysen’s (Elain’s fiancé) sprawling compound.
With her glamour in place, Elain sought an audience with Greysen. They were only allowed to go as far as the guardhouse, a cramped and stuffy space that triggered Feyre's claustrophobia. Nesta, noticing her sister's discomfort, confided her own struggle with baths, opting for buckets instead. It seems Feyre and Nesta are mending their strained relationship, and this was a significant moment for them. However, their moment was interrupted by Greysen's arrival, accompanied by his father, Nolan, and 24 guards. Nesta briefed them on her ordeal with Hybern, the cauldron, the wall's destruction, and the imminent threat to the mortal lands. Elain implored Greysen and Nolan to open their gates for the local families, but they were met with a stern refusal.
They know EVERYTHING, and in great detail including the well guarded secret of Lucien being Elain's mate, all revealed by Jurian. (how did he know they were coming) It appears that Hybern has mad a mistake. He assumed Jurian would return deranged, seeking vengeance. Instead, Jurian cleverly used the pretense of searching for Drakon and Miryam to covertly alert them, wherever they and their people were concealed. He hopes the message will reach them, prompting them to ready their people for combat. Jurian also disclosed that immediately after the wall fell and the high lords' meeting ended, Tamlin went directly to Hybern. He has also discovered Hybern's intention to strike the Summer Court tomorrow. Poor Tarquin. Why is the Summer Court such a frequent target?
The question on everyone's mind... Is Jurian's word reliable. Rhysand and Feyre have probed his mind and encountered only truth. Jurian is not their enemy (I'm still not sold that Jurian is actually Hybern's puppet, and The Night Court has a mole). Nolan, acting the troll, initially refused to shelter those in need should Hybern advance. However, after Julian's forceful persuasion, he relented.
Elain is also facing a challenging period. She confronts Greysen for the first time since her transformation into fae, and Greysen detests the Fae. He monstrously demanded that Elain surrender her ring. Suffice to say, the Archeron sisters did not take kindly to this, with Nesta nearly slapping his head right off his shoulders.
Jurian plans to feign frustration over not locating Miryam and Drakon to maintain the deception and incite internal strife within the mortal queens' courts, akin to Feyre's tactics with Tamlin, all while gearing up for war.
The recent developments have left everyone reeling, but there's little time for reflection. They must ready themselves for the impending battle.
The Wall has fallen, removing a significant barrier to Hybern's campaign of war and the enslavement of the mortal realm. Yet, hope persists. The Night Court has secured a fragile alliance with several other High Lords. The question remains: Can they halt Hybern's advance? Dive with me into the concluding segment of A Court of Wings and Ruin.
