High Lady

Do you think Feyre was reckless and Irresponsible when she set off to find the Suriel?

The battle had been won - barely - and not without great sacrifice. Cassian was mortally wounded. Luckily their healer could work miracles. A Court of Wings and Ruin would have been thrown into a volcano if Cassian had died.

When Cassian regained consciousness, he and Rhys had a pivotal conversation about sacrifices and how Rhys wasn’t the only one who is allowed to make them. Cassian told him that they all knew what Rhys had endured while under the mountain, and now it’s time for them to do the same for him and the rest of their family. As Mor saw it, Feyre had lied to her about where she was going. Feyre, knowing she was wrong, tried to back pedal her deception, by saying that she hadn’t lied but merely hadn’t told her what she had planned to do. Yeah. Mor didn’t accept that excuse either. Mor tried to get Feyre to understand that while her crown places heavy responsibility on her shoulders, there are even heavier consequences as High Lady and trust in her inner circle is paramount.

The Morrigan

This is the first argument Feyre has ever had with a friend, and it was devastating. Most likely hurt more by The Morrigan’s berating than she was angry, Feyre lashed out and told Mor to climb off her high horse and be honest about her feelings for Azriel. Her words hit her mark and just like that, there was nothing more to say.

At this point in the book is what made me like and appreciate Feyre’s character more. During her argument with Mor, she didn’t pull rank. Feyre is the High Lady, and not once did she hold that over Mor not one time. The same can be said for Rhysand during his argument with Cassian…in a way. He did pull rank, by telling Cassian that he had no authority to disobey a direct order, but Cassian knew that he was able to tell Rhysand exactly what was on his mind, as a brother and friend.

As Feyre was stalking away from Mor’s tent, Amren has arrived with the Book of Breathings. Feyre has already shared what the Suriel has told her, and now the search for Hybern’s main host begins. Nesta agreed to the scrying without argument. She located the cauldron without any trouble, but she went too deep and was having a hard time pulling herself out of it. Feyre intervened with her Daemati abilities. Not only did Feyre and Nesta see how massive the Hybern host is, but also, it’s location: no more than a hundred miles away from the Archeron family estate.

With this new information, Rhysand has called a meeting with Tarquin and Helion to discuss battle plans. Hybern had them right where he wanted them.

Side note: Feyre thought to herself that Helion and Lucien favored each other genetically so much, she wondered why no one ever said anything, which made me think: Lucien and the mistreatment he endured at the hands of his “father” Beron and his true born sons, I’m sure SOMEONE did say something. I am almost positive that Beron knows who Lucien’s biological father is. I only wonder if Lucien and the brothers he was raised with know the truth.

When Varian entered the tent and laid eyes on Amren, he didn’t hesitate to take her into his arms and kiss her soundly.

Amren and Varian

We’ll alternate who has to deal with them on holidays”.

-Tarquin

They all decided to fill their bellies and sleep on the matter of Hybern’s army. Feyre was startled awake by a presence in the camp. Apparently so did Nesta and Amren. All three women hear the siren song of the cauldron. They also the only ones who can hear it. What do they have in common? They were all Made. The song roused them all out of a dead sleep and had them gathering to find out what and where, except for Elain.

Elain is missing. Lured away from the camp by the cauldron’s song. Kidnapped by Hybern. There is only one option. Rescue. The plan? Walk straight into the enemy camp. I would have thought that Nesta would be first in line to volunteer to go, but she is beside herself with grief at Elain’s abduction. There is no question that Feyre is going, and not surprisingly, Azriel will accompany her. In order to walk into Hybern’s camp, Feyre takes a risk. She is hoping that Hybern does not yet know about Ianthe’s death, and she shifts into a likeness of her borrowing one of Azriel’s siphons to act as the blue stone Ianthe always wears hoping that it is similar enough to the real thing.

Even though Feyre had seen Hybern’s army, it was not the same as the real thing. There were many atrocities taking place, and Feyre came across a young woman who reminded her of Clare, and still alive. Feyre was fighting with the decision as to whether or not to cut her down when Jurian approached telling “Ianthe” that the King has been looking for her. Uh Oh. It didn’t take long for Jurian to see through Feyre’s ruse and let her in on a little intel…Ianthe has been thirsting for him, and to keep gambit going she will have to play along as he led her to “his tent”.

Freeing Elain won’t be a walk in the park, and their lives are on a very short time limit. 5 minutes to be exact, and Elain is bound by a spell from the king’s infamous spellbook. There’s no time to try to break it. Azriel scooped Elain up in his arms and the trio made a mad dash to the border of the camp where they could winnow. Jurian’s diversion bought them some time, but not enough. The king was able to muster his troops and release some hybrid Attor- hounds on them. Escape is so close! There is only one way they can manage it… flight. And we all know that Feyre’s flying skills are lacking. Just when it appears that Feyre may get up in the air unscathed, she takes an arrow to the shoulder knocking her on her butt. The attor-hounds closed in on her, then out of nowhere, Tamlin! In his beast form took on those hounds much in the same way the beast took on the wolves for Belle (no shade. Just saying). Feyre scrambles to her feet and continues get a running start for flight. Azriel is already airborne, carrying the human prisoner Feyre saw bound in Hybern’s camp, and Elain.

One of the hounds managed to get past Tamlin, and it’s talons found purchase on Azriel’s back and wings. Feyre’s ass is still trying to get in the air. Tamlin comes to her defense once again and produces a wind that smelled like lilac and grass to help her get in the air and to safety before he saves himself.

By the end of the chapter, we learn that the human’s name is Briar, everyone is patched up and healing, and the Archeron sisters are FINALLY behaving like sisters.
